I'm an inspector on an asphalt paving project site. I moved up my pickup, and as I got out I heard some whining/yipping. I thought it was a wild animal or barn litter because we were near a cow field. But as I was

walking back to the paver I noticed a box and the sounds got louder. Sure as , it was puppies. It's been consistently 100+ degrees every week I've been out here. I'll never understand why people won't just rehome animals or try to take them to a shelter.

UPDATE: They are all okay for now. One of them almost passed away, but my coworker was able to save it. My coworker who is really good with dogs is going to take care of them for now. I'm glad I trusted my gut and checked on the box.

UPDATE #2: Last I heard from my coworker, they're eating, sleeping, and using the bathroom well. They're on their way home. Here is a picture of them about an hour or two after rescue for those interested!

UPDATE #3: Post weekend update! All of the puppies are still alive and well (there are six of them). They were taken to a vet yesterday. We were a little concerned with the smallest one having slight congestion, but the vet checked them out, and said every puppy is okay/healthy. A lot of people

in this thread, myself included, thought they might be pits. But the vet thinks that they're likely a small breed. They suggested chihuahuas, but with the coloration my coworker thinks they might be terriers, like a Jack Russell.

They unfortunately were newborns when we found them, as some suspected. But they're doing much better now! They're acting like normal puppies, feeding well, and moving around a lot.

Hopefully they will continue to stay healthy! And when they're strong and old enough, go to good homes. I'm planning to take one in myself when we're done with this project in a few weeks. Here is a more recent photo:

EDIT: Thank you all so much for the encouraging words and awards. I won't have time to respond to everyone, but I'm glad to see there are a lot of people out there who care.

Also, a lot of people have been commenting that this is way more than mildly infuriating, and I get it. This is beyond infuriating, but to my knowledge there wasn't really an active subreddit that expressed that amount of rage. So I just put it here. I'm sorry if I've upset some of y'all because of that.

Marcus2Ts. More than mildly infuriating. I don't think they're even weaned from momma yet. I'm seeing closed eyes and fresh umbilical cords Edit: and poor momma dog. These puppies were not ready to be taken from her

Xenovitz ⚫ Glad you found them alive. We had a coworker find tons of puppies tossed into a black trash bag and left in a hot dumpster to station in NH. at a gas

Prim_2199⚫ People like you and your coworker need a raise or something similar for that type of heroism

SnooS... I found my first dog, Everett, (after moving out of my parents house) in a closed shoebox in a dumpster with a closed lid. He ended up being a part of our family for 14 years! Here's a couple of pics. I hope you found someone's Everett

Correct-Training3764 I'm so glad you all saved these sweet babies. It breaks my heart how soulless humans are. These poor babies wouldn't stand a chance. And I feel awful for their poor pup mama. She's probably tore up wondering what happened to her babies.
